A Future for Heritage Crafts
This programme will be to extend and raise the levels of heritage crafts and skills to professional standards through placements and apprenticeships. The intention is to ensure the conservation, transfer and development of traditional and existing skills, and also seek options for diversifying these skills for new purposes. It is hoped to protect and create employment, provide outlets for local products, and offer options for those wishing to use local craftspeople and suppliers.
It will also assist in the wider regeneration of the area as a base for artistic and cultural expression, where talent and quality is fostered and appreciated. The primary focus is expected to be on those skills which have a close relation with the landscape and the conservation of buildings and places, but will be open to other opportunities that can revive enterprise or innovate using local materials: for example, wool and/or weaving.
This project is now complete.
