Roman Forts and Civilian Communities

This project aimed to extend knowledge of key Roman sites and provide greater evidence for Roman occupation across the area. The project wanted to enhance knowledge of the archaeological resource at Greta Bridge, and lead to a better understanding and appreciation of past land-use and settlement in the Greta Bridge area and the influence of Roman period activity on the local landscape. The project consisted largely of non-invasive work in the form of a geophysical survey. For information about findings please see page four of Durham and Northumberland's Architectural and Archaeological Society newsletter.
