Geology in the Park
The Geology in the Park project aimed to provide a place within Cotherstone Play Park where people of the dale and visitors alike can learn and interact with the geology of the dale. The project included the creation of a stone pyramid built by sculptor and master craftsman dry-stone waller Ewan Allinson uses three types of local stone and serves as a climbing structure. The stone used was locally sourced and includes Whin Stone, Limestone and Sandstone. It explores aspects of local geology and quarrying, as well as the Norse mythology which attaches to Baldersdale. The pyramid also includes an interpretation stone and a secret chamber. Above this chamber, hidden in the stonework, is a time capsule filled by pupils at Cotherstone Primary School.
This project is now complete.
