Barnard Castle Garden of Remembrance

The Garden of Remembrance is located on the greens in the middle of Galgate, leading down towards the Castle, which forms one of the strategic approaches to the centre of the town.  It is a well used area for seating by people of all ages, both local residents and visitors. The project aimed to renovate the existing Garden, including improvements to the chain-link fence and gate, renovating the seating and the installation of an additional Memorial plaque to commemorate those who have lost their lives in conflicts other than the two World Wars.  This formed part of a long term strategy to enhance Galgate:  to ensure a balance between domestic and visitor usage, and protection of green spaces and mature trees. The maintenance of the site will be ongoing.
