Amen Corner

The area known as Amen Corner has strong historic associations, particularly with Richard III, whose emblems are found within St Mary’s Parish Church alongside. The project enhanced this important site within the centre of the town which helped to improve the visual and amenity impacts on the Buttermarket and Newgate corner, providing a more suitable and practical entrance to St Mary’s Church and reviving and extending the green and floral settings.

Works included new landscaping, with improvements to car parking and entrance way, better seating and refurbishment of paving and walls. There was a change in layout for central and corner flower beds, but the white roses were replaced with similar varieties associated with the White Rose of York. There was also be new signage for the church.

This project is now complete
