Calling all budding photographers! We are running a photographic competition focussing on the views of Teesdale. The competition opens today (Wednesday 11th June) and will culminate with an exhibition of the top 25 photographs at The Witham Gallery in October. The ompetition is open to all ages and abilities, whether they are an amateur or more experienced.

The competition forms part of our ‘Teesdale Views’ project, which aims to highlight and promote the wonderful views of Teesdale and give the local community and general public the opportunity to showcase their favourite views in the area. The term ‘view’ is open to interpretation by each individual, so as long as they can explain why they believe their photo is of a ‘view’ the photo will be eligible. The photographs must be of a view that falls predominantly within the our area. The competition will run throughout the summer and the start of the autumn, with a closing date of 30th September 2014.

The competition will be officially launched on Thursday 19th June from 7 to 8.30pm at the NeST Gallery in Barnard Castle, where there will be further information about the competition and also a talk by local photographer Andy Beck about how he approaches landscape photography.

After the competition has closed three judges will select the 25 photographs, that they feel best fulfils the competition brief as well as being well-composed, distinctive and inspiring. These chosen photographs will then be printed and framed and displayed at The Witham Gallery for a two week long exhibition. The winner and two commended entries will be announced and presented with their prizes at an opening night ceremony at The Witham. The winner will receive a voucher for £200 worth of photographic equipment and will also win a one-to-one workshop with Phillip Dove, renowned landscape photographer based in the North East. The two commended photographers will win a joint workshop with Phillip Dove. All of the 25 photographers that are exhibited will receive their framed photograph to keep at the end of the exhibition.
